Saying we were two plays away in Gainesville in 2006 is specious at best. I was in the Swamp that day. Jamarcus' goal-line fumble was horrible and cost us a chance to go up 14-7. But Florida took that fumble and went 3 and out. Jamarcus then threw an interception on the next drive. That was all in the first quarter.

Florida then scores twice and we trail 16-7 at half time. If that team had championship mettle, we overcome a few first quarter bad breaks. But in reality, that Florida defense was outstanding and put handcuffs on us in the second half. Jamarcus throws two second half interceptions. We miss a field goal. So does Florida. We had 5 total turnovers. We lost 23-10. I don't remember feeling we ever had a great chance to win in the second half.

Florida’s defense was amazing that year but if LSU doesn’t make the two mistakes in the first half it’s a 17-17 game and anyone could have taken it.

And lost 23-10! That game absolutely could have been a win for LSU!

Everyone always talks about the JaMarcus fumble and the Hester TD calked back.

But holy shite I’ve never felt a more gut wrenching twist than Early fumbling the kickoff out of halftime and recovering it in the end zone for a safety.

I mean WHAT THE frick???

We were only down 14-7 despite all of the miscues in the first half, getting the ball, and all of a sudden it’s 16-7 and we are kicking off to Florida and giving them a short field.

Five plays out of halftime and Tebow throws the long TD pass to Murphy and its 23-7, and we never got anything going again, game over.

That Doucet kickoff fumble was the dagger in that game, similar to Odell’s muffed punt against UGA in 2013.

Just absolutely devastating miscues.
