But Derek Jeter told us attendance would increase despite trading away Stanton.

And frick Jeter.
As a Yankees fan (which is sort of beside the point), I find it fascinating that the perceptions of Jeter and ARod have flipped for both guys in retirement. I like Jeets but he hasn't helped himself one bit since taking over baseball operations for the Marlins.
Jeter was hailed as this consummate professional who was driven to win and adhered to the "play the right way" mentality, and was widely admired by the media.
ARod was reviled as this odd, inauthentic diva who cheated and constantly lied about it, and was loathed by fans.
Inversely, in retirement Jeter's gained a reputation as an aloof, phony baseball exec who doesn't care about winning, attended a Miami Dolphins game instead of the winter meetings and fired several longtime team employees (one of whom was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery), whereas ARod has thrived in a second career as a studio analyst and in-game color commentator and is generally liked by fans.
