I could go back and search through all the old threads. But it was a lock that he was getting the max. When they traded for him, the max was too low and it made no sense for him to sign. So everyone on here said he was guaranteed to get it and they would have given it to him earlier, if they could. Thats not my opinion or speculation, its a fact. He had the max waiting on him.

Now he gets injured and people want to cut his money or the number of years. Cousins isn't going to like it and if they do it, he is going to say that they lied. He'll be right. The offer was laying on the table for over a year and they yanked it.

Had he not gotten injured, he was pretty much a lock for a max deal. However, that is far from being "promised" a max as you put it. Things change and an achilles injury is about as big a change as there can be for a big man.

So we traded two lottery picks for a guy we were just considering keeping? No, they offered him the max. You know they did. It just wasn't enough at the time and everybody agreed to wait..

Btw, Dwight Howard got a max deal after the worst year of his career, having a spat with one of the top 3 stars in the league, injuring his back twice and having back surgery. So there is a bit of a precedent..
