It is the socket that burns up, and it is a common problem with GM trucks. Had to replace one of mine a few years ago. It cost about 30 bucks if I recall for a cheap little plastic light socket. I started to tell them no thanks but stuff like that just bug the shite out of me.

I had a short in the socket on my 09 Sivlerado. Found that out after replacing the bulb twice. Only cost about 10 bucks to replace. Rolling on 150K now, Gonna see how long I can tempt fate
