to be fair Social media and unlimited access to a national platform for anyone that's ever had a small amount of fame has only been prominent for the past 10-12 years. So you really only have two presidents where this would have been heard of on a big scale.
There were plenty of hateful things said about Obama that were downright horrendous for a sitting president, but celebrities are majority democrat and the ones that aren't are afraid to be cast out of work by speaking their sides. The James Woods and Ted Nugents were few but they have said some terrible things about the Obamas.
Trump probably stoked the fire a little with his use of name calling of his opponents in a public forum like twitter so a little of it is on him to be honest. Any first lady should be completely off limits, but it isn't unfortunately.
Also I saw countless memes of Michelle compared to a gorilla and a man etc. during Obama's presidency and hardly any in the same vein for Melania on my Facebook feed. I get one unhinged celebrity said something uncalled for and atrocious, but the base right was far more venomous towards Michelle than the base Left has been towards Melania from what I've seen.

Which celebrities beyond Wood and Nugent? Here's a list
of SIXTY celebrities that said f Trump
A few other gems from the left:
Snoop makes a video about assassinating Trump
Madonna talks about "blowing up the White House"
Johnny Depp makes a joke (kinda)about assassinating the President
And of course who can forget this
The celebrity and MSM vitriol on the right towards Obama wasn't CLOSE to what's going on today and it's beyond silly to even compare the two
