quote:Look, I'm not a wealthy man, but I do work and am middle class. I have a son now in college, about the same age.
quote:
Luke pleaded guilty to molesting his own niece for god sake. No innocent person does that-period.
Yes they do. Far more often than you would ever imagine.
If my son was accused of this and he told me that he was innocent, I would bankrupt myself with legal fees for the best attorneys, and work as much overtime as I could. If I had to sell stuff, so be it. We'd fight, fight, fight some more, appeal if necessary. This isn't a DWI or shoplifting charge that you can plead to and have it "hidden", and 20 years later rack up to immaturity; this is a life-destroying charge. Heimlich was a teen during the plea, and now that it's out his entire rest of his life will be hell.
The fact that he did plead, and that his parents went along with it and allowed him to do so, indicate he was guilty of something bad. At that point, using my own son in a painful-to-imagine scenario, then yes, you beat the shite out of him, then take the plea with the "sealed" provision.
And you move away, try to use your own connections to get him a quiet job somewhere out of the public eye, and make damn sure he meets every condition of the agreement. If he goes to college, fine... but nope to the baseball stuff. Sorry, but those parts of his life are off-limits now, too risky (someone will find out). You do nothing to draw attention to yourself, keep your head down, and try to make the best reconstructed life you can.

How old was Heimlich when he pled guilty?
I ask this because as a minor, wouldn't the parents be responsible for the plea deal.how he pled? Maybe the parents, on advice of the attorney took the deal to avoid the possibility of a long term jail sentence?
