Very little commentary has been made about the Super Regional between LSU and Florida State. I am sure Florida State fans think the better team won, and what matters most is who walks away the winner. Florida State won. I personally thought LSU was a better team. I am going to post a list of coaching blunders during the Super Regionals, which spans across all eight supers. (Posted on another forum by various members)

1.  Rocha/Walton pitching to Vidales in top of 7

2.  Torina bunting Doyle

3.  Murphy not starting AO in Game 2.  I know she had a lot of pitches the night before, but this is your last chance and there is no reason to save her.  Give her the ball.  She is full of grit.  It was the only shot your team had.

4.  Torina pitching to Warren

5.  Kentucky coach having to bring in Humes in Game 1 because of sub error.

6.  Opposing coaches not going crazy when Klaevemann and Mack stepped out of the box in every at-bat (nearly).

7.  Jo Evans putting Harington back in the 7th inning of Game 3

Comments under this post suggested several other mistakes....

--Tennessee pulling Moss out toward the end of game 2, and ending up watching Arnold give up a homer to the Emanuel kid.

--putting Haff in (Arkansas) to bat at a crucial point in their second game with Oklahoma, only Haff's second at bat of the season.

--Georgia bunting DiCarlo with runners on first and second base, no outs. Georgia ended up with nothing that inning.

--Condrea not pulling McQuillin after she gave up three quick runs against UCLA in first inning of Game 1.

I'd personally thought leaving Carly Hoover in and not putting in Allie or Gorsuch, I thought that hurt them, Carly did her job but was out of gas by the time the 7th inning came around. She looked exhausted.

What I think everyone agrees on is the inconsistency in the plate umpire's strike zone, game 2 nd 3. A case can be made that he called the same inconsistent way for both sides. Florida State was working our pitchers, maybe better than we were working theirs, I dont know. Allie looked like she was burning up in game three, and I think part of the reason was she was not getting strikes called. Some umpires do not call drop balls as they should. I could see the frustration on Allie's face.

Bunting Doyle, I think, was a terrible mistake. We have FEW girls on the team that can bunt consistently, and, from what we have seen, Springfield and Sunseri can both bunt very well. Sometimes, you have to pinch-hit in order to get a sacrifice bunt in. Antoine cannot bunt, I dont trust her trying. I am sure it is not easy, but the coach should call time and throw a pinch hitter up there who can bunt. Those pop-up bunts are killer, and Andrews ran to second base without evening looking to see where the ball went. Maybe a miscommunication.

Hat tip to the four seniors. Great job, all four of them. Emily ended up playing four years and making only a handful of errors, ending her career with a .307 batting average. Definitely an asset for the team.

Our two pitchers were both All American and among the best in the country each year in ERA. Loupe was the team mule who worked tirelessly with our pitchers and, given her chance to shine in the SEC tournament, she made the most of it.

As for next year, there were two things that many are concerned about.

First, with Hoover and Walljasper gone, will our pitching be among the worst in the SEC?

Absolutely not. In the series with Florida, that question was answered. We didn't have two good pitchers on the team, we had FOUR. To see two freshman hold Florida down the way they did, I think we will be not just alright, but have the best pitching crew in the SEC. Florida will have Barnhill, but Ocasio is gone. In Georgia, they have lost Gray, their ace. Kentucky lost Rethlake. Auburn has lost Carlson and Bilodeau just transferred to Fla State. Tennessee will return Moss, and Arnold, but they are middle of the road.

We will be ok with pitching, and Beth is as good a pitching coach as anybody else... she did a great job with Carly, Allie, Maribeth, and Shelby. Next year, Wickersham will play for us, and though she may end up #3, I have confidence in Beth's ability to develop her and the other freshman coming in.

The other question, not yet answered is, will next year's lineup look exactly the same, the only difference being Griggs will not be there?

I hope, if Schulte returns to the starting lineup, that she has a totally new batting approach. She has power, if she can get her hitting straight, she will be an asset to the team for next year.

Beth now finds herself in a tough spot. Weinberger, Thornhill, Springfield, and Sunseri, if put in the right position, are good enough to start. Many complained about Beth alternating Antoine and Weinberger, and for some reason, Antoine got the nod. I think part of the reason is because Weinberger is probably the best and smartest base-runner on the team, and that is the role she plays. Sad, because she is a rock solid outfielder. Her OBP was good.

Thornhill has to start her senior year. Pinch-hitting is not going to show you how good someone can hit. If you really want to know, let her play four or five games in a row, four at-bats per game. She is a smart kid.

Then we got Bourg coming back, and she is a natural ball player, versatile, can bunt really well. I am sure she is expecting to either play centerfield or second base.

One thing I hope Beth does move away from is playing the same lineup every single game. Florida and Tennessee move their players around. UCLA's coach sat her team down at the beginning of the year and warned them their role they play may change from week-to-week, and they all understood it.

We cannot PENCIL-IN anybody. Any promises made to the players has to be conditional....HIT, or sit. I dont care how good you play in the field..

They say we have some good recruits coming in.... we will have to wait and see. Their numbers they put up in high school are meaningless. When we see them play, how they approach batting, how they field and how they throw, their mechanics, that will give us an idea of how well they will do.

2.  Torina bunting Doyle

I don't think this was a bad decision. I know Doyle is the leading RBI hitter on the team, but she was also a double-play thread and IF she gets the bunt down, then Sanchez and Schlattman, both of whom had been driving in runs with big hits, have a chance to win the game.

4.  Torina pitching to Warren

Possibly the worst in-game coaching decision she has ever made, and I am not exaggerating. You DON'T let the best player on the other team beat you when you can avoid it. I get trusting your senior pitcher and I get that Allie struck her out the first time, but Warren had already hit 2 homers and driven in like 7 runs in the series. What more proof do you need that you shouldn't pitch to her? I bet Torina lost more sleep over this than anything else that went wrong on Saturday, including leaving Hoover in too long.

Before 1 you need:
Running off a .347 hitter that was from BR and would have been the difference in this series.

I WATCHED ALL OF GAME 2: LSU's pitching was superb! Heroic effort and I'd marry that girl. LSU's hitting stunk! We lost.
