If it had a chance of causing the planes to crash do you really think they'd let you even bring your phone on the plane? Half the people on there are morons, they aren't gonna risk one of them not turning it on airplane mode if it was a real problem.

Had a flight once with some Amish couple in front of me and their baby. It was an hour and a half flight and the guy got up at least 15 times to get something out of one of their 5 bags in the overhead. They used the overheads on both sides of the aisle. He had this long trench coat he kept taking on and off in the aisle that would blow his smell around each time. Right after the pilot said we were descending the guy got up and pulled out a huge ziplock full of some sort of bread that smelled horrible. Didn't eat any of it. Just stood in the aisle redistributing it into smaller bags for some reason. The baby was actually the least annoying thing about them.

I would say 95% are morons. The best travelers are business travelers. The fricking worst are rednecks and trashy families. Old people suck too because they’re so fricking slow.

No one’s answered the question yet. If using phones on a plane is safe, why the insistence of making everyone set theirs to airplane mode?
