Four trips to Europe in the last 18 mos, never a checked bag. Oh, wait, I did check once or twice on the way home due to liquid souvenirs, but certainly never outbound. Lightweight luggage is a must. I used Tumi for years....then a roller handle broke and Tumi wouldn’t fix it. Moved on to TravelPro Maxlite—cheap price, lots of features, and super light weight. Probably not sturdy enough to be checked every time, but I can lift the loaded case into the overhead w/o help (short, so it can be tricky). Get the smallest roller you can find. I like a quad roller, but they’re not so good on uneven surfaces.

Seriously, ppl need to work out a travel wardrobe. Your usual stuff prob isn’t so travel friendly, and if you want to be efficient, you need things to be versatile. No one knows that you’re repeating outfits, for goodness sakes. Spend a lil money on a few high-quality key pieces, then you won’t need as many things.

Stretch tech fabric trouser-look hiking pants are my secret weapon.
