This remains an ultra-talented roster, and there’s no question that LSU is good enough to overcome these odds. (But all of those things working against a team don’t usually come with good results.) With good coaching, yes. But don’t tell that to the CheeriOs. Miles left the program in shambles and O winning 8 would be a miracle!!!

Oddly, you left off the next sentence.

I think it's possible to state concerns about the coaching staff AND acknowledge that there are some serious challenges for 2018. It's not excuses, simply fact.

I do; however, agree that elite coaching can often overcome these obstacles. Sometimes they can't. See Jimbo and FSU 2017 as an example.

Well my point was the narrative that this somehow isn’t still a very talented roster. That we are somehow so depleted that having a few players out against Troy makes a loss to a team without a single NFL player less embarrassing.

Are there obstacles to overcome in 2018, of course. We play a few really good teams and our offense is obviously a work in progress. An SEC Championship year would be a surprise imo, but a good coaching staff ahould make 10-2 with a NY6 bowl a very attainable goal.

My gripe has always been the lowering of expectations based on some invented shortage of talent. There is none.
