Compared to the historical norm we all won the fricking lottery growing up in 20th century Dixie. Downright idyllic.

This point is lost on most Americans, particularly those under 40 - why? It's relatively unearned and we're far enough from the Depression and WWII generations for this unearned opulence to just be criminally unappreciated.

And worse, they assume that it either:

1. Just happened by chance (and I'm not attacking your lottery analogy, because it's fair in and of itself), or, worse,

2. We took it from someone else.

Neither of those things are true - the United States IS the result of extremely hard work by folks who were committed to rule of law and free market capitalism. America is a blessing to the world as we've made the world a better place. And I'm disinterested in arguing with folks who cannot concede that. They're ignorant or worse.

Perfect? No. Awesome and make the world a better place? You bet your arse.

no truer words were ever spoken - and the fact that this is not a central message of our educational system from pre-K on up is a sad situation. The fact that the exact opposite message is being indoctrinated into our children is criminal.
