Germantown is nice but not all the suburbs are. Bartlett is nasty. Northern Mississippi suburbs aren’t that great.
Nola has a better skyline too. Memphis, for being a large city, has an unimpressive skyline.

I like New Orleans better. They're both dirty as frick and Memphis does have a pretty cool vibe to it and has a couple of suburbs nicer than any in NOLA but New Orleans aside from the hurricane threat is just more unique, fun, and laid back. There's such a laid back, friendly, fun loving attitude and strong culture in NOLA that is infectious and sets the tone for the entire northern Gulf Coast from there all the way over to the Florida panhandle. Memphis has a little bit of that too but in NOLA you're less than a 4 hour drive from great beaches, the culture, the food, and boating/fishing can't be duplicated in Memphis. Just my opinion.
Now if you were comparing New Orleans to say Nashville, Charlotte, or Jacksonville, that's a different story.
