In Louisiana (and many other states) med bills have a 10 year Statute of Limitations, credit reports have 7 year though.
If you're trying to get credit approval for a home loan it'll need proof of payment (letter from the reporting entity) or removal. An actual written dispute of the debt will take minimum 30 days from credit reporting agencies (plural as all 3 will handle separately) receipt of dispute.
For other loans (car, cards, etc.) if $120 collection from 3 years ago is a deal breaker they don't want the business anyway and you're better off going elsewhere where you'll be valued. As common sense dictates $120 ain't throwing anyone into bankruptcy, so a lender lacking common sense...
