Every time these threads pop up, I figure that either there's a ton of over-exaggeration going on, or I'm some type of 1-million anomaly with pools. I put in a gunite/salt water pool 4 years ago this August. To date I have only added salt, Muriatic Acid, and changed out a pack of cartridge filters. Cleaning takes about 20-30 minutes a week, although I have to admit I don't have any trees around me so that helps out a bunch. I clean the tiles and deck 2-3 times year, which takes up an additional weekend day or so each time. I'm sure eventually I'll get hit with some issues that will take time/money, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about maintaining a pool.
Almost my exact situation...4 years, gunite/salt and cartridge filter....I do very little maintenance —-it has been problem free.
We use the hot tub about 3-4 times a week from fall through spring.

Mine too, except I strongly prefer a chlorine pool to saltwater and my filter is DE.
