I wouldn't go too far north of Bush in West Plano. Great area and not too far from work.

How old are you? Married, kids? If you're wanting fun stuff, events, and good restaurants, I'd go with the Lakewood recommendation. It's an awesome area, right by the lake, and super close to the best areas to do stuff. The lake has all kinds of outdoors stuff to do, country club there if that's your thing, anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes to knox Henderson, deep ellum, lower greenville, uptown, bishop arts, design district, and oak lawn so you can go almost anywhere fast. It's older so the houses are nice and the lots are big.
