I had a friend one day who had done something to piss off his father and his father said he was going to give him a spanking. My friend (about 16) said he was too old for a spanking. So his dad said if your are too old for a spanking you are old enough for an beating. And that is what that old man did. Beat my friends arse like a rented mule.

That beating probably did more to change his ways than all the groundings and spankings combined.
