Moved to Houston from Baton Rouge 4 yrs ago. Mostly everything across the board is cheaper. Home owners insurance, car insurance is 1/2 what it was much better coverage, gas, water, electric, housing construction, house repairs, groceries, gas. I don't get where it's $200-300 year difference. It's well over that per month savings in basic everyday items. Then you factor in higher wages.

Agreed. I never argued that. Only that the tax rates are about the same.

Honestly it's mostly cheaply built houses built by illegals. It's the same in the BR metro. Dr Horton is building trailers on concrete slabs with the garage in the front. Cheap arse houses are common from Denham Springs to The Woodlands
