LSU was a basketball school. People threw their penned up football energy behind the basketball team. It wasn't just Shaq either. Chris Jackson was at least as big of a college star and they played together for a year. I was young, but I remember it was crazy.

All that said, they weren't very successful in the NCAA tourney and had multiple disappointments with all that talent.

Baseball was becoming dominant and people were starting to bandwagon that as well.
