My son shoots a 7mm08 and by all accounts is a great deer round, I shoot 308 and like it because you can go heavier and have great ballistics for realistic hunting ranges on larger deer (bucks). The creedmor is flat but the differences come pretty much out of 99.9% peoples realistic hunting range. My opinion if you want to shoot at something 500 yards away get a 300 WM, you will have mass and velocity on your side that is why the military snipers are moving to the 300.

Also, use an Interlock or similar, much better knock down power than say an SST ballistic tip.
