Cold weakens batteries period, that's just Chemistry. Poor assholes with Teslas are seeing their driving range cut way down too... 
Whichever ever truck I'm not driving gets put on a trickle charger immediately and I keep a JNC660 jump starter in the truck I'm driving. Northeners don't get special batteries, they just have heaters for the engine and battery that they plug in.
