By definition, it cannot stay "intact" because damage has been done. And, no matter how hard the cheater tries, that damage cannot be fully repaired...ever. What's done is done, and no amount of forgiveness or reconciliation is going to change that. Yes, some couples can recover from infidelity. But the person who was cheated on will forever have it in the back of their mind. It will constantly permeate their thoughts, particularly during times of intimacy. Things will never be the same, no matter how much it may appear so on the surface. Source: was cheated on by my ex-wife. Trying to forget about what happened is fricking torture.
