Weird. No attorney, doctor or nurse I know gets to work a special schedule for less pay. My doctor friend dropped to part time but I don't think she makes less than other part time doctors. Nurses typically work three 12 hour shifts. I don't know any attorneys, male or female, who work fewer than 60 hours a week.

Not being snarky, but you must not know many people. I know scores of professionals who have negotiated or agreed to take on less responsibility/hours in order to attend to family needs. If you are good enough at your job and valuable enough for your employer, you will most likely be able to work out such a scenario. You will obviously make less than if you were working full time, but the pay is commensurate with the reduced expectations.

Pharmacy is notorious for this. Lots of females willingly drop to part time to have kids.
