That offense was fun as hell to watch.

Mettenberger, Landry, OBJ, Hill....

And on the other side of the ball, one of the most porous defenses we had since 2008.

very. one of the most I've ever seen. that team had potential. the defense sucked and the offense was incredibly poorly coached. the play calling was so poor that caused us to lose the Ole Miss game as they kept calling those long passes when they didn't need to and Mett was off that night. 3 fricking drive killing interceptions in the first half.

OBJ and Landry was the only reason Mett was good. they were vacuum cleaners and made amazing catches on Mett's errant passes.

That was one of the worse defenses I’ve seen in a longgg time that LSU fielded. Looking back we just didn’t have any beef up front or depth.

That Ole Miss game was beyond frustrating. The defense couldn’t stop a damn nosebleed when we played Georgia.

That loss was worse than last years FLA loss... A top 5 LSU team goes to A crappy Ole Miss team missing several players on D and lays the ulitimate egg... A TERRIBLE loss.... ALL on Miles.............

Not near as frustrating as the ‘98 season. Preaseason #7-8 coming off the I-Bowl win over ND. Had Herb and Faulk coming back...lost 4-5 “what if” games. That season had me losing sleep. Losses to UGA by 1, KY by 3, Ole Miss by 6, Bama by 6 and ND by 3.

Turned out to be a blessing in disguise IMO. ‘99 was a complete disaster and Duhnardo got chitcanned and Saban was brought in and changed the course of LSU football.

Definitely would've won the game. Beating Bama would've been a tough job even with a chance to win the west on the line.

I've always said 2013 was a big transition year for LSU. That's the year we changed from an elite team to a middle of the pack SEC program. Les let the game pass him by and lazily looked on as Cheif Chavis mailed it in (DJ Welter was starting on defense). There wasn't a case for firing Les in 2013, but we should have, in hindsight.

Didn't Mettenberger throw three interceptions in the first half?

Yet Miles did NOT bench him.. And Hill fumbles and doesn't see the field the rest of the night.........

What can you say. Bama was great and no chance of beating them. The ole miss game was one of those where everything went wrong in the 1st half. LSU came all the way back and it was too little too late. UGA was a rare shoot out loss that LSU is not used to. Have we forgot about the amazing win over the nearly national champions-Auburn or how the defense creamed Johnny Mansfield. You take the good with the bad and it’s a 10
Win season

Against A defense starting like 5 freshman and had like 7 starters out..... We should have run the ball all night.....

And yet you are long established as a clsssic ranter.

Hill sat for one drive. A drive where Magee and Hilliard led us to a TD.

Hill played the entire second half other than that drive. Look it up, or just continue spreading your faulty memory as fact. It’s the true ranter way

As for OM playing a bunch of freshmen, they were a bunch of freshmen from the best class in OM history that would take the team to the #1 ranking in the country as sophomores.

Oh, I forgot, not all teams lose games automatically because some starters are out and they have to play really good freshman

Great post. The season was disappointing when you consider the NFL talent at the skill positions, but the lines weren’t any better than this year, which so many people are eager to excuse for some reason all of a sudden.

We had a great win to start the season over TCU in Dallas, beat the SEC Champs and BCS NCG rep in Auburn, had a classic shootout, that so many people that hated the running game under Miles better get used to with a wide open passing attack, with a really good UGA team on the road where we came up short, beat an up and coming MSU team that would be #1 for half the season the following year on the road, shut down Manziel for the second year in a row.

Two of our three losses came down to the very last play of the game against SEC foes on the road, and he Bama game was tied 17-17 going into the 4th quarter.

And yet people are here daily touting the same 9-3 record this year as some amazing accomplishment but talk about that team like it’s some embarassment.

Never change Rant

they got their act together about midway thru the year. and I know we're supposed to just reload, but this is who we lost off the previous year's defense:

Bennie Logan
Mingo
Big Sam
Josh Downs
Minter
Eric Reid
Tharold

that's your whole starting DLine, and a couple all star types in Minter and Reid. that's a lot to overcome.
