It's a shrinking segment, but it won't be dead anytime soon. I'm a little surprised Ford is pulling out of it.

Most of the "mid sized" cars sold in the US are a little too large to be popular in Europe, so if sales dwindle in US and Canada, they have real trouble justifying them.

The smaller segment (Corolla/Cruze/Golf/Focus) is basically all sold worldwide with minimal changes. Slow sales in the US won't mean the model gets canceled.
