Massachusetts also has a Republican governor with the highest approval rating of any governor in the country. There is a reason the OP asked about NY and California. He wanted the deepest of blue states.

EDIT: And if you go by margin numbers rather than rank MA / AL is actually the perfect analogy because both were +27 to their winner
