This isn't a Democrat vs Republican issue. People forget that populations within the states aren't all the same. The south isn't representative of Republicans, the majority of Republicans do not live in states that connect to the Gulf of Mexico.
The best indicator of republican vs democrat probably boils down to big city vs rural area.
