The biggest contract stipulation or bonus on the New Orleans Saints has nothing to do directly with yards or sacks.

It’s a postseason honor. And depending on how the voting goes, Mark Ingram could potentially reach free agency a year early.

The Saints running back has a clause in his deal that makes him a free agent if the Associated Press names him a first-team All-Pro. Ingram also could have fulfilled his contract a year early if he made the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017, but he did not receive that honor last season.

With the way Ingram has been running, there’s a chance he could make the team. He ranks fourth in the NFL with 806 rushing yards, and his eight touchdowns are tied with the Rams’ Todd Gurley for the league lead. His 5.2 yards per carry is third among running backs behind New Orleans’ Alvin Kamara (6.2) and Green Bay’s Aaron Jones (5.3).

Ingram also has 213 yards receiving.

Things are trending upward for Ingram. Since the Saints traded Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals, Ingram has picked up 636 yards on the ground over his past six games. He rushed for 170 yards during the first four games.

If he maintains his pace, his odds of earning the honor will only get stronger.

Here are some of the other incentives Saints players could earn this season, according to various league sources.

quote:

DE Cam Jordan

The defensive end can earn an additional $250,000 if he reaches 13 sacks, $750,000 for 15 sacks, and $1.25 million for 17 sacks. Considering he already has eight sacks with six games to play, he has a shot at earning some of these incentives. It would take a few big games to reach the higher end of the spectrum.

Jordan is on pace to finish with 12.8 sacks.

LB Manti Te’o

Recent injuries at the linebacker position put Te’o on a better path to earn his incentives, but it still seems unlikely he will get there unless something else goes wrong for the defense.

Added this offseason as a free agent, Te’o can earn $200,000 for playing 65 percent of the defensive snaps, $500,000 at 75 percent and $1 million if he’s on the field for 85 percent of the plays.

So far, Te’o, who typically only plays in the base defense on running downs when everyone is healthy, has logged 39 percent of the snaps.

OL Senio Kelemete

The injuries on the offensive line have given Kelemete a shot at earning some extra money.

His contract stipulates that he can earn $200,000 for playing 50 percent of the offensive plays, $400,000 at 60 percent and $600,000 at 70 percent.

Considering he’s played 53.9 percent of the snaps, he has an outside shot at cashing in, but it would take additional injuries for him to maintain that mark.

The first $200,000 of Kelemete's bonus is considered “likely to be earned” because he played 57.6 percent of the snaps last season. That means it’s accounted for in the salary cap.

TE Josh Hill
Hill signed one of the more interesting deals on the team when New Orleans prevented him from going signing with the Chicago Bears before last season. Not only does he have a no-trade clause, but he also has a deal rich with incentives.

The tight end makes an additional $12,500 for each game he is on the 46-man roster and has the potential to make additional money elsewhere. He has a $100,000 bonus for making the Pro Bowl and could earn $250,000 for catching 50 passes and another $250,000 for reaching 600 or more yards receiving.

Hill currently has nine catches for 62 yards.

OT Zach Strief
The veteran right tackle could have padded his bank account if not for a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve after Week 1.

Strief has incentives that pay him $125,000 for playing 70 percent of the offensive snaps in three games, $250,000 in six games, $375,000 in nine games and $500,000 in 12 games. If he manages to return from injured reserve, his only shot is at three games.

QB Chase Daniel
The backup quarterback could have made an additional $1.5 million this year based on the number of games the Saints win and whether they make the playoffs, but he would have needed to play 70 percent of the offensive snaps. That number is unattainable even if something happens to Drew Brees down the stretch.

Daniel also could earn $750,000 each for passing for 3,500 yards and throwing 19 touchdowns.

That’s just a stupid clause to implement. That’s asking for it

It's something Ingram would have asked for, not the team. If he gets out next year he would be 28 (29 next Dec) heading into FA. If he had to wait a year more he would be 29 (30 in Dec 2019).

He stands a much better chance of getting a good deal if he reaches FA next year instead of the year after. Teams start running scared around 29, and lowball you at 30.

Sleep easy. He won’t be a first team all pro this year or any other year.

Playoffs will have everything to do with it if it's close. Whoever makes the deepest run has the advantage assuming the RB has good stats contributing to the deep run.

These are reasons Manning and Brady got MVPs despite Brees having some better stats.

A bunch of non- football watching fans here. Yes, he has the ability to make all pro this year and the stats back that up. Also, the game plan has backed that up. Currently, there is no clear better running back, this season, than Ingram. All pro is not that far fetched.

Again I’ll come back and bump this post in a few years. Ingram will never be a 1st team all pro. He will always be a great RBBC member. He will never be a fournette, gurley, Peterson, zeke etc......... he just doesn’t have it in him.

I think Cam knows there is blood in the water. I can see him getting 13 sacks easily. He's about to go off

Dude. You are being ignorant. He has similar numbers to Gurley and is sharing the backfield. If you can see it being possible, then you are just being obtuse.

Don’t even being Fournette in this. He hasn’t done shite in the NFL to be listed with those guys.

The guys I mentioned are viewed by their coach as work horse backs. Ingram isn’t.

So, he’s only 80 yards behind bell and leads the league in TDs (tied with Gurley), but because Kamara is on the team, he can’t be all pro? Stupid.

Ingram is finally playing to his potential, but don’t kid ourselves, with this OL, the Saints could draft Chubb or Guice and produce those same numbers.
