i can only hope that he made his wishes clear so that his family does not prolong his suffering.
My mom was diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's) and while she was still quite lucid she insisted upon making her living will and her DNR wishes made quite clear. She was ready to go and not live on in dementia as she had seen my grandfather thru it.
Having her do that made it so much easier for me to do the things I needed to do - she made it all quite well known.
Such a terrible way to end life.

His wishes might be to keep him plugged in as long as possible,
I had a friend say he wanted a living will that said he should stay on life support until his employer (that insured him ) ran out of money.
