I’m a fan of Brother models. They last and have had no issues. I upgraded to an all in one 2 years ago for scanning and fax capabilities.

HP, Canon, Brother are all good.

but if you don't like expensive ink, you definitely won't like buying toner....

I've had a $180 B&W Brother with auto duplex since 2009 or so and am still on the starter toner. I did cover the little window on the cartridge with electrical tape last year when it told me it ran out, and it's been fine since then. This is a commonly performed hack.

Model Name Brother HL-5370DW series
Device Status
Page Count 3464
Drum Count 3464
Remaining Life
*Drum Unit 21536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (86.14%)
Fuser Unit 96536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (96.53%)
Laser Unit 96536 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (96.53%)
Paper Feeding Kit MP 49998 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (99.99%)
Paper Feeding Kit 1 97451 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (97.45%)

I don't print much, and if I were still using inkjets, I would have spent hundreds on ink. Over a year, I determined my cost per page for a six color HP was like 30 cents, and it was due to the frequent cleaning cycles that wasted most of my ink. Never again. This Brother OTOH may last me the rest of my life.
