I just don’t really understand the Phillies team. I know it’s only 3 years but 75 million is a lot for a guy with an arm that most don’t expect to hold up. They have some decent young talent but I don’t see that being near enough to complete.

Three year deals for Santana and Arrieta are perfect, especially for a team like the Phillies who have nearly everyone on pre arb rookie deals. They almost had to spend that money. They will bridge the gap until they are ready to compete, and they could make noise sooner if some of these youngsters "hit"
Also, Santana and Arrieta are "Kapler" guys, meaning they will mentor all these young guys and show them how to be professionals. Santana is already working with Franco to teach him how to hit
