again you have no idea what you have.... Not sure why this one bothers you so much

Fine. in my OPINION the risk that the prospects will not be better than the major leaguer we gave up will not be as good as the major leaguer himself.

Because teams line up to give away young controlled MLB ready talent? The Pirates and other teams that do believe they are not ready to compete and that by adding prospects they have a brighter future.

You have no idea what we have. A few guys on the ML roster could have had career years and this could have lead toward playoff contention. HOw is wanting them to win a bad option?

Plus, we had the money to obtain a few free agents. According to forbes' figures we could have easily spent 50 million based on what they made the last two years.

Congrats, based on last year if he was the best pitcher they had they are in trouble. Tallison actually had a lower FIP than Cole and will be the ace this upcoming season.

So how are we better off WITHOUT him?

quote:

And who exactly did they get rid of? Pedro Alvarez? Neil Walker? JA Happ? AJ Burnett? Happ was the only one but he was 32 at the time... The fact that Cole hasn't pitched like a CY Young player and other players have had issues has been worse for the Pirates.

So why didn't they sign top notch free agents? Why didn't they trade for elite talent?

That is fine, but I wouldn't act like it is the end of the world.

If you are banking on career years rather than the norm you are already in a world of hurt

Not sure why you keep quoting this, I highly doubt it is 100% accurate since they only go off of certain numbers.

Well first off FA have to want to go to you, second most FA have proved to be worthless in reality. As far as trades, they've made trades. Maybe not the blockbuster you want but they've made deals.

I dont see these fire sales in the NFL. That's why MLB is such a pathetic joke.
This is just fricking stupid.... MLB has much more parity than the NFL and has proven so over several years. I mean I look at what Cleveland did this past offseason as a firesale, they got rid of or traded almost everyone of value.
