The neck shot is a VERY good shot for deer hunting, as long as: the hunter knows his deer anatomy; both the gun and hunter are accurate enough for the shot; the hunter demonstrates some judgment on when to take, or not take, a neck shot. I think EVERY deer hunter should be able to make a neck shot. There could be a situation where that's the available killing shot. OTOH, for the hunter who can make the neck shot, there's no reason to limit it to does. One of the advantages of the neck shot is that there'll be NO trailing to do. That's good for does AND bucks. Learn your anatomy and angles. Look at pics of deer anatomy and dissect the neck down to the spine on the neck few deer you skin. The handguns I hunt w/ are challenging enough making nice lung shots so that's what I do. Good luck.

The other nice thing about a neck shot is no mess in the body cavity. You roll those guts out and the rest is easy. No clean up.
