re: What should we do about the homeless problem?

We need better mental health care, give them access to meds, addiction programs, help them learn a trade, temp housing to get on their feet, etc. I would rather allocate resources to help these people get going than giving people money and resources to keep spitting out kids and living off the government. Like I said, I bet most are mentally ill and not just lazy people with bad luck. I’m sure there are some true losers but even if half are in situations they can’t control, I’d like to see us help them. Giving them a few bucks and a free meal here and there won’t change their situations.

How many of them have ID and SS cards? Do they know how to get these without the resources they need? Does it cost money to acquire these things? Would they need a mailing address? They would need both to get a job as well as access to clean themselves up for interviews. Also, how do they get to work? I realize a sane person with a little fire could figure some of this out but we’re not talking about you and I.
