It’s an interesting question for sure.
I tend to think they do.
I know that’s going to upset a lot of people that are still stuck on the Troy and MSU losses. I am too, but here’s why I think wins are more important than losses.
Go back to 2011. After the regular season we all saw the graphics between Alabama and Oklahoma State.
Alabama, as dominant as they had looked, had only two wins over ranked teams.
Oklahoma State had five.
Pretty much the only measure, other than the “eye test”, where Alabama could claim to be the more deserving team, was that they had a better loss, which they certainly did.
But in my opinion, a loss is just that. Both teams failed to do what they needed to do to win. While one may feel less of an indictment, it’s nothing but moral victories and equivocation.
But as bad as that loss to Iowa State was, Alabama lost too. They failed. So does it make sense to judge those two teams based on their mutual failures, or based on their actual accomplishments.
As an LSU fan, I will forever believe that Oklahoma State should have played LSU on 1/9/12. I just do.
The wins and accomplishments outweigh the failures.
I know it’s not an exact comparison, but in this case I’ll say if we get more wins like we did against Auburn, I’ll weigh those accomplishments more than the failures.
That doesn’t mean as long as we win more than we lose the season is a success. But I will put those early season losses in perspective if the team continues to improve and accomplish what they should over the next half of the year.
And I say that as one of the biggest critics of the O hire on this board.
Just IMO of course
