He saw more upside with Kaep. Not a big deal. Maybe they never would have gotten so close to winning that Super Bowl with Smith.

The problem at Mich is that his first stud QB recruit, only a redshirt freshman, must be a moron or something and can't find the field. That could bring down Harbaugh if he doesn't hit on a QB pronto. Only a few schools can be top five caliber without a stud. Stanford has been a bit of an exception there maintaining their level with a schizo guy like Hogan at the controls.

But, contrary to a point rocket has made before (Harbaugh can't develop QBs!), he had Kaep play at a high level, Jake Rudock went from garbage to very solid over the course of a season, and he had Hoke 3 star stopgap Speight playing well last year.
