I wish we would invest in the regional academies idea. The country is so large that it is difficult to implement ideas evenly, but with regional academies you at least localize development, and take it out of the hands of the clubs, who are self-interested, and see more value in spending money on some kid from South America rather than some kid in New York or whatever.

Good idea, but the USSF is never spending that money. At least if you put in guidelines and criteria, you're forcing clubs to spend it. Maybe you have regional academies and make clubs of that region split the cost and have first dibs on players from the region or something.

I think that would be interesting but doubt they go back to that model after shutting down the U17 residency program

I wonder how much the talent wasteland between Bradley's age group and Pulisic is due to the formation of and transition to the development academy model
