So the one sport that generates the most money and funds the athletic department and part of the university is going to become second or third wheel? The plan is to sacrifice tens of millions of dollars to make a little bit more with basketball

First off, thank you for the intelligent response. It's refreshing.

Here's where I think we differ in opinion. If you only read the rant, you would think LSU is going to lose half of their current revenue each year. I don't even think it's going to be tens of millions.

Yes, the stands are going to be empty for a few weeks if we keep losing. But you know what happens then? A new wave of fans come in and fill the seats. LSU will always have a packed house, I don't care if we're middle of the pack, or top of the SEC.

I sincerely think Alleva sees maybe a 3-5 million loss in revenue WORSE CASE here, possibly even a break even from where we have been for the past 4-5 years. We haven't been very good since 2011, and are we really seeing a huge dropoff in revenue?

I think he sees this and is taking advantage of our loyal fanbase. Now he's making his move in the basketball space, trying to make us competitive again.

This is where you are wrong. In the 90's the house wasn't always packed and there were a lot fewer seats.

Now combine that with overpriced tickets, overpriced parking, overpriced concessions and a bad product on the field and watch how few people show up.

You're theory is just bad. It's OK to admit it, but don't keep trying to defend it.

I realize I've been posting this all morning, and I'm surprised there isn't more of it. I am also certain that it was discussed in much more depth two weeks ago when this first came out.

You don't try to become a "basketball school" when your football program/athletic department is worth $910,000,000.00

This isn't Duke with high tuition, small student body, and alumni base not interested in football. This is the FIFTH LARGEST "franchise" in all of college sports.

You don't wait for Nick Saban to leave Alabama, who is 4th largest. Even the mighty Saban at Alabama can be beaten. You don't roll over and emphasize basketball if your the FIFTH LARGEST entity worth nearly a BILLION dollars.

You don't lose to Troy or any Sun Belt school, in your own stadium, supposedly one of the most intimidating venues in all of American sports, either.
