A few holes in that theory:

1) Why say "I am the search" unless you're just trying to be an alpha? Totally unnecessary line that sets you up for failure.

2) Why the huge buyout and overpaying for CEO when King and the governor and others keep harping on how we're broke?

Now I do think Eddy O made friends with the right people and did a great PR act, thereby putting a great deal of pressure on Alleva to hire him. But at the end of the day, Alleva was one of Miles's biggest critics behind the scenes and wanted him gone. It was up to him to line up a replacement and he couldn't so he went along with Ed's allies and hired him despite everyone with a functional brain predicting it would end badly.

he was the search, as in narrowing down candidates...but I don't think he made the decision on his own.

well, it looks bad for program stability if it is perceived that your new coach is already on the hot seat before his first game. If there was no buyout, and Ed could be canned at anytime with no financial damage to LSU, you don't think other schools would use that against LSU during the recruiting process?

Just playing devil's advocate here...

The public statements don't really mean much to me. It's probably just some BS that sounded good to him at the time.

Why the huge buy out

At first this completely baffled me. I even made at least one stupid statement on this forum along the lines of "what have we got to lose? He's cheap and if he doesn't work out we'll just get rid of him" ...Not knowing about the buyout at that moment. The recruiting thing must be it

My take is this...
In 2015 Alleva wanted to can Miles and was lining up Jimbo. The price tag got too high. LSU was having a budget crisis so Alleva was told not to go through with it because it wouldn't look good. University budgets and athletic spending should have not been connected so this tells me somebody else made the call. (King?)

2016 starts out rough. Someone decides enough is enough and something must be done now. (not King and probably not just Alleva because the money had to come from somewhere). They fire Miles...And THEN They try Jimbo and they try Herman. That doesn't work out so they fall back on Orgeron.

The fact that it's all so reactionary shows just how amateurish these people are. They fired Miles with no plan in place already. They did the same thing when Chavis quit. Called his bluff without having a new DC lined up. It was a terrible time to try to find one. Right around signing day. Had to have hurt recruiting.
