The problem I see for the league is that when you couple the fact that they've always been the "zero individualism" league with them not engaging in fines here, then the league really can't play the whole "players represent themselves" card.
The league has definitively taken a position. Hell. They opposed emblems supporting police officers just last year.
Will them taking a position against a substantial portion of their fans hurt them? I'm sure that argument will go on for some time.
But, there is really no avoiding that the league has in fact said, "well, we've always said don't do shite that pisses off some fans........but........well.........ok.......except for those fans".
Seems an unwise move.
