Traveling there next summer and looking for places to stay. Spending three days there and then Bogota. Wife's family is in Bogota so we are good there. Need some good leads on places to stay in Cartagena. There will be three families. 16 people so we want something nice but affordable not super expensive. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I stayed in a resort by the beach when i went which was awesome. Ill have to find the name of it, but youd probably be better off staying in a beautiful resort type hotel as opposed to some small expensive room

If you stay in old town, its much more cramped and old like staying in the french quarter

Cartagena is amazing though. It is a lot like the french quartet but more colorful

Thanks Burt. The wives were looking at staying in old town one hotel with no hot water. I will look at the resorts. Thanks.

Cartagena is essentially 2 distinct cities. One is the historic old downtown with colonial architecture. The other is the beach area on a strip of land between the Caribbean and the bay.

If the old city is similar to New Orleans, then the beach area is similar to Miami Beach. It's lined with skyscrapers and hotels. It's also the area where most tourists stay.
