Is your daughter popular? Very active in school activities?
My in-laws had a similar situation and they did the rent house thing. Sold their home, MIL moved into an apartment with daughter who was a senior in High school, FIL moved into a rent house in new city. I wouldn't have done that though, my SIL wasn't very involved in school and rarely even hung out with friends or anything.
High school isn't important, chances are that your kid is moving to a new city for college anyway.
