My concern is that the anchors would be in the mortar. Hammer drilling the mortar to insert the anchors could weaken the mortar joints unknowingly. If the anchor pulls out of the mortar joint, then what?
I'd just rather be safe on this since I have the option to get back there and build a support structure. It won't be difficult to do, I'm just making sure I account for the job properly and don't miss an easier way of doing it safely.
ETA:
Even the manufacturer, in their instructions for hanging the mount on a cement block wall, warns against using the mortar joints for the anchors:
