Well are we talking about value or compensation? Athletes are paid to be walking billboards for organizations to sell their products to marks. They're lucky slave owners wanted to breed for better physical athletic genetics.

Now people like LeBron are made to feel so important because they're good at putting a basketball in a hoop..and shoe companies, soft drinks, etc get involved.
