I ended up getting my now 6th grader a phone and as a result, her little sister also received one. My service provider offered the 4th line for "free" so to speak and we only pay $100 for all 4 lines unlimited everything.

That said, in order to get the phones, both had to sign a "contract" with us (mom and dad) agreeing to the rules and stipulations that we set forth. Weekdays, phones and all electronic devices are to be put up by 8 p.m.

And no social media until they reach the age of at least 14 at which we will evaluate again to determine if we believe they are mature enough to handle it without it becoming a distraction.

The girls are about 7 months into their agreement with us thus far and to date, there have been no issues. In some ways, they are learning more about responsibility and guidelines.

Oh, and they also understand that they are NEVER to greet a person when on the phone as this is a sign of disrepecks in our house. The phone must be put up when entering a place of business, family or friend's house.
