Is there anything normal that these people are in support of that doesn't involve violence, destruction and disruption? That's all I'm seeing from this "resistance".
the cops let it escalate because a mayor or governor finds the mob useful...so what's going to happen is either someone sick of that or someone feeling empowered by that...is going to show up and start shooting people when things escalate

Yeah, unfortunately one side is allowed to operate with impunity, it'll cause a predictable violent backlash, then the left will have the justification it needs to implement everything on it's socialistic wishlist. This is what happens when we decide to selectively enforce laws. The whole idea of a civilized democracy breaks down.
