You know one that I'm going to say deserves a mention in this thread: Hostel. The movie itself wasn't terrifying, it's more slasher porn than suspense/horror but you could not pay me enough to to stay in a European hostel after that movie came out.

Also, Scream. I saw it when it came out on VHS. I was 8 and a buddy of mine had stolen the VHS from his sister. It terrified the frick out of me. I was scared of windows and backdoors for years after it came out. But as an adult I absolutely love it. One of my favorite.

Ditto. I believe the country it portrayed was very upset with the movie.

Nott a bad call. Underrated movie.

I also liked the mention of Mulholland Drive. That was scary in a creepy way.

No mention of Misery? That movie scared the ship out of me.

And I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shoutout to the movie that most changed my life:
