The New Orleans Saints tweaked the roster Saturday with numerous transactions during training camp.
Coach Sean Payton announced the signings of defensive tackle John Hughes, defensive end Jason Jones, tight end/long snapper Braedon Bowman, cornerback Malik Foreman, and wide receiver Xavier Rush.
"Periodically, we'll bring in a large group of players to work out," Payton said. "We're early enough in camp to see these guys have done some good things on film, had good grades on them, so we wanted to look at them."
Hughes, who measures 6-foot-2, 304 pounds, entered the league in 2012 out of Cincinnati as a third-round pick with the Cleveland Browns. He has appeared in 58 career games with 10 starts, while playing for the Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 6-foot-5, 278-pound Jones entered the league out of Eastern Michigan in 2008 as a second-round pick with the Tennessee Titans. He also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins, and has appeared in 109 games with 70 starts.
Bowman entered the league in 2016 as an undrafted free agent out of South Alabama with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also spent time with the New York Jets.
Foreman is an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, while Rush played collegiately at Tulane and spent time with the Eagles in 2016.
To make room on the roster, the Saints waived rookie cornerback Dejaun Butler, wide receiver Rashad Lawrence, safety Robenson Therezie, kicker/punter Patrick Murray and placed rookie defensive tackle Devaroe Lawrence on injured reserve.
