I hate what the show has done to LF by having him give Sansa to the Boltons instead of keeping her safe with him in The Vale, and having real Sansa lose her maidenhead to a known psycho rapist.
Basically it marked his character fatally flawed and condemned him to death no matter what he did afterward...say what you want about GRRM and his convoluted storytelling, but he never left a major character in an un-redeemable arc, except for Joffrey and Ramsey who were never meant to be redeemed.

he betrayed ned stark, he provoked maybe the entire war by manipulating already existing tensions between the starks and lannisters.
everything littlefinger does is for littlefinger. it's to get above where he is. he was never redeemable.
also, once the tyrells come into the picture, sansa is useless and her only importance is to tywin Lannister who wants to use her for the long term future of his family name. the boltons just plan on marrying a fake sansa stark, no one cares. in the show they make her an important chess piece to whoever intends to hold the north. it seems like he's betting on stannis taking winterfell and then marrying sansa and controlling the north...combined with his ties to the vale, he'll make a play for the throne.
so while it didn't make for the most compelling game of thrones story, it was certainly better than the books and for me very enjoyable television.
