Nowadays, it's almost like coding is anathema to them. I don't know what happened, but this never used to be the case.

1984 Revenge of the Nerds was released.
Take a look at any graph showing women majoring in CSC on when the decline began.
There was a severe social stigma associated with kids growing up in the 80s with learning to program or become an engineer.
Today with the internet and use of modern computing in everyday life those numbers should rebound but its not really rebounding.
