Just taking the #25 team on punt & KO returns and you have a combined 70.4 yds/gm and .15 TDs/gm (avg 4 ret a game). That's an extra offensive drive. And that's not even counting the value of field position. Just in yards, it is worth it.
For offensive players: We hear "run the spread!" and "use your best players!" all the time. So why take the ball out of a good offensive players hands, usually in space (like the vaunted spread), 4 times a game?
For defensive players (DBs): So they are stopping and starting, swiveling, and making contact often on every play. Why is S/Teams that much more dangerous?
Not harping at you OP. I just hate the idea of "saving" your best players by not letting them do returns. The return game is very valuable.
